Name three things you would take from Biggles' flat if you could...
My three picks:
1. Algy's cigarette case
No explanation really necessary for this one, except to say that he probably has so many that he wouldn't miss one...:)
2. The oriental lamp buttonhole badge from Foreign Legionnaire
Couldn't say why I want this, but I think it would be an interesting thing to have, plus taking something from Biggles' personal museum would be great on a personal level (getting in training for the role of Biggles' archenemy).
3. Bertie's monocle
Just so FB can't get her hands on it...*evil grin*

Hmmm...I'm presuming you mean I can't take Biggles himself? I mean, he'd be my first pick :)
ReplyDeleteHowever, presuming you mean inanimate objects, I'll go for:
1. Biggles' RAF tie;
2. The Atlas that Biggles keeps telling Ginger to get down when they want to pinpoint some geographical location;
3. Biggles' photograph album - I know he has one somewhere
1. Ginger's scrapbooks. Just what WAS he busy pasting into all those books all that time? Bet he has loads of interesting newspaper clippings about Biggles and Algy in there. Ginger seemed to know an awful lot about them both before he met them. Should make for interesting reading....
ReplyDelete2.Algy's pure silk dressing gown - hmmm.
3.A packet of biscuits, just so I'd know what their favourite kind is, and could get some in stock in case any of them ever called round. Biscuits do seem to be the food of preference on most of their adventures.
Well, I wouldn't personally deprive Bertie of his monocle whatevermay happen to it in his adventures so my three picks would be:
ReplyDelete1. Bertie's cigarette case 'cos smoking is bad for him
2. Biggles press agency cuttings so I can see what exactly catches his eye
3. algy's alarm clock. Maybe the poor boy might get a decent night's sleep. We all know he hates getting up early.
Eh?Did Bertie live with them? I was certain he had his own flat, (from sometime when Biggles asked if anyone had told Bertie yet and Ginger said he'd just rung him and he was coming over).
ReplyDeleteYes, he did live with them but at what point he moved in was never known.

ReplyDeleteAlgy has a pure silk dressing gown????
ReplyDeleteYes. It's mentioned somewhere. Think it might be in 'Flies Again' but not sure now - haven't come across it for a while.
ReplyDeleteAnd Biggles wears a silk vest! Didn't even know gentlemens vests were available in silk until I read 'Baltic'.
Biggles and Algy clearly like to kit themselves out only in the very finest.....
Bet Ginger's dad would have rolled his eyes at it all.... : )
Well, if one can afford it..!In one of the Gimlet books Gimlet dives into a canal to 'have a bath' and he's wearing blue silk trunks1 I imagine Bertie's unmentionables are also silk! As for Ginger's Dad, I can actually hear what he would say and am putting my hands over my ears!

Nowadays we'd call that kind of behavior "stalking"...:)
I wondered what kind of dressing gown Ginger had???? He wouldn't have wanted a silk one. It would have been too fancy for him, I suspect. (Although considering that all his housemates had one he might be forced into the habit)
He probably never possessed one until he went to live with Biggles and Algy, in which case one of them would have bought him one when they presumably kitted him out. and he may have wanted one like Biggles had. I rather think that in the 30s you went striaght from child clothes to adult ones.
ReplyDeletePilots used to wear silk scarves in WWI to reduce chafing round their necks I think. So maybe they got keen on silky smoothness generally...
ReplyDeleteNot to be greedy and take three photograph albums...
ReplyDelete1) I'd like a WWI photo of Biggles and Algy with their Camels.
2) A WWII photo of Biggles and Algy with their Spits, and...
3) Hmmm. Maybe one of them as young children the only time they met, even if Biggles was scowling :-)
You'd probably have to raid their wallets to get the photos! I would think that Biggles and Algy keep things like that close :)
