gunner killing Algy, or conversely, Algy’s feelings when he found that he had
shot down his best friend. Whatever else happened, that must be avoided at all
costs. Better to betray himself and be shot by the Huns than that should happen.

This gets me EVERY time I read it. Biggles would rather die at the hands of the enemy than give his friend heartache. **sniff**
