Why do you read Biggles fan fiction?
Is it because it's fun to see the boys in peril? (Because life doesn't get interesting until Erich shows up with a firing squad...)
Is it because it's nice to see the boys get out of peril? (Ah, the relief! They've escaped yet again! Poor Erich.)
Is it just lovely to read the "brotherhood-caring" moments between our heroes? (Awwww....)
Is it to fill in the timeline gaps of the original canon? (Serious academic fan, here.)
I personally like reading the "awww" moments when I'm reading fanfics, but when I'm writing them, I tend to go for the peril (and most of the time I forget to leave a way out and then have to worry about how to get the boys out of the mess I got them into...)
So how about you? Comment on your fanfic loves below!

Definitely all those reasons except the first one... that's Soppy's guilty secret :)
ReplyDeleteBut I guess the relief of seeing the boys OUT of danger would be considerably diminished, if not non-existent, if they weren't IN danger at some point... if that makes any sense at all *_*
All the same, never give it up Soppy - we love reading your deliciously complicated fan-fictions :)
Complicated? Mostly they're just confusing...
ReplyDeleteExcept for the parts when Erich shows up with the firing squad. There's nothing confusing about that. :)
Writing fanfic is a great way to relieve stress though.
For me I think the boys are at their very best when struggling to find a way out of a perilous situation. You know they are going to get out of it...you HOPE they are going to get out of it... you just can't see how. And then there's the 'Ah, of course! Why didn't I think of that?' moment when Biggles, Algy, Ginger or Bertie play a trump card, do something amazing and save the day.
ReplyDeleteI also love the banter and the cammerarderie, but conversely I also loved it when Ginger went off the rails decided Algy was the villain and started firing bullets at him! *shakes head sadly. Something not quite adding up there*
Oh, and the humour. There definetly has to be some humour!
But really I think I read Biggles fanfiction because you just can't have too many stories about Biggles and Co. :)
I concur with JJ's comments above :) The bottom line is...I just can't have too many stories about Biggles and the boys :D
ReplyDeleteI agree - can't have too many stories about Biggles & Co.
ReplyDeleteIt really was most inconsiderate of WEJ to die :(
But at least some people are making up for it :)

ReplyDeleteThe unspoken thought being, "Or not making up for it, in Soppy's case..." :)
