Okay, so I know I've been away for a while (for a longer than usual while, I mean). Mostly I've been working (really, Soppy? Working? Again?) and trying to handle the spam load, which seems to run on a strange rising and falling pattern (just when I think it's going to be okay, I start getting a couple hundred of them a day again).
Just to check, has anyone noticed anything strange about the blog lately? Have you been getting pop-up ads or redirects or anything like that? Or have you noticed the blog loading slower than usual? I think it might be that someone's hacked into the insides of the blog (I really, really hope not, but if they have, and if I catch them...)
I know that a lot of the spam could probably be blocked if I had more barriers up in the comments bit, but I'm reluctant to do that as I know that some readers prefer not to have to log in to comment, and those number-letter jumble things that no one can read anyway are enough to put anyone off making a comment.
Anyway, to the point of this post--sorry to keep everyone waiting for long. I'm writing the next chapter, and it will be up Friday of this week, so if you're waiting for it, it will be up then. Promise.

Soppy - you do an amazing job. We don't mind waiting!! You really need a rest from all this spam and work. Make sure you have *some* time to put your feet up (and think lovingly of your dear Algy) :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't noticed anything strange about the blog recently, no. I've seen the odd spam comment, but then, of course, you know about that problem. I'm so so sorry it hasn't cleared up :( And if any log-in arrangement would help... but I can understand why you're not keen on that one.

Not that many people do log in anonymously? Still you will decide what is best. And I await the next chapter happily - don't worry how long it takes :)

ReplyDeleteIt is very annoying. I don't really understand it at all. Surely there must be a lot of much bigger blogs where more people are likely to see and click on their spam links (which I assume is what these spammers want??)
